What is a mobility bathroom?

A mobility bathroom is a bathroom designed or adapted to make using the facilities safer and easier for someone with reduced mobility. A mobility bathroom can include a walk-in shower, level-access shower, shower seat, grab rails, accessible toilet, raised-height toilet and other bathroom adaptations.

Can you adapt my existing bathroom for mobility?

Yes. In many cases, an existing bathroom can be adapted rather than completely redesigned. We can assess your current bathroom and recommend practical changes such as replacing a bath with a walk-in shower, installing a low-level shower tray, adding shower seating or fitting grab rails.

Who is a mobility bathroom suitable for?

Mobility bathrooms can be suitable for elderly people, people with disabilities, people with reduced mobility or anyone who finds using a conventional bath or shower difficult or unsafe.

Can you design a bathroom around someone’s specific mobility needs?

Yes. We take the individual’s requirements into consideration when planning the bathroom. The aim is to create a bathroom that is practical, safe and comfortable to use while helping the person remain as independent as possible.

What bathroom adaptations can you install?

Depending on your requirements, we can install walk-in showers, level-access showers, low-level shower trays, shower seats, grab rails, accessible toilets, raised-height toilets and other mobility bathroom equipment.

Can a mobility bathroom still look like a normal modern bathroom?

Yes. An accessible or mobility bathroom does not need to look clinical. Modern shower screens, wall finishes, bathroom furniture, flooring and sanitaryware can be combined with accessibility features to create a contemporary bathroom.

Mobility Bathroom FAQ's

What is a walk-in shower?

A walk-in shower is a shower designed to provide easier access than a traditional bath or shower. It can incorporate a low-level or level-access shower tray, a suitable shower screen and additional features such as a shower seat and grab rails.

What is the difference between a walk-in shower and a level-access shower?

A walk-in shower generally has an easy-to-use entrance with a low-level tray, while a level-access shower is designed to provide minimal or no step into the shower area. The best option depends on the bathroom, drainage, floor construction and the user’s mobility requirements.

Can you replace my bath with a walk-in shower?

Yes. Replacing a bath with a walk-in shower is one of the most common bathroom adaptations. We can assess the existing space and determine the most suitable shower arrangement for your bathroom.

Can you install a shower seat?

Yes. A shower seat can be incorporated into many walk-in and accessible shower installations. We can discuss the most appropriate type and position based on the user’s requirements and available space.

What is an easy-access shower?

An easy-access shower is designed to make getting into and out of the shower easier. This can involve a low-level shower tray, level-access shower, wider shower entrance, shower seat and strategically positioned grab rails.

Can you install grab rails in a walk-in shower?

Yes. Grab rails can be positioned around the shower and other areas of the bathroom where additional support may be beneficial. Their position and height should be considered carefully around the individual using the bathroom.

Walk-In Shower FAQs

What is a wet room?

A wet room is a waterproofed bathroom where the shower area is designed to allow water to drain through the floor rather than relying on a conventional shower tray. Wet rooms can provide a spacious and accessible showering solution.

Is a wet room better than a walk-in shower?

There is no single solution that is best for everyone. A walk-in shower with a low-level tray may be ideal for one bathroom, while a wet room may provide better access or manoeuvrability in another. We can discuss the options based on the bathroom and the person’s needs.

Is a wet room suitable for elderly people?

A properly designed wet room can be a good option for people who struggle with steps or traditional shower trays. It can provide easier access to the shower area and can be combined with a shower seat, grab rails and other accessibility features.

Can a wet room be installed in a small bathroom?

Yes. A wet room can sometimes make effective use of a small bathroom because the shower area does not necessarily require the same defined enclosure as a conventional shower. The layout still needs to be planned carefully.

Can you convert an existing bathroom into a wet room?

In many cases, yes. We can assess your existing bathroom and determine whether a wet room conversion is suitable. The construction of the floor, drainage and existing layout will all need to be considered.
